What is The Broom List?
The Broom List is a boutique matchmaking firm founded by Tennesha Wood that pairs educated, successful, marriage-minded Black professionals and those who date them. The name honors the tradition of jumping the broom. The firm has been featured on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The New York Times, and Bravo's Kings Court.
Who does The Broom List match?
Black professionals and those who date them and meet our criteria. All members and clients are 28 or older, highly educated, earn at least six figures, and are ready for something real. We ask the questions you might not find out a year into dating, or ever. We go deep.
Do you work with gay and lesbian singles?
Yes. Love is love, and The Broom List is for accomplished Black professionals who are serious about finding it, whoever their person may be. We also partner with a trusted network of fellow matchmakers with deep LGBTQ+ candidate pools, and every candidate, however they come to us, is vetted with the same rigor, care, and discretion.
Where does The Broom List operate?
Our matches are concentrated in six metros: Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington DC. We work with clients anywhere in the country. If you live in one of our six metros, we work to match you there first. If not, we search across all six and find the best fit for your life.
How do I get started with The Broom List?
Start with an application at thebroomlist.com, reviewed personally within 48 hours. From there: a strategy call to talk through what you’re looking for, an interview with the lead matchmaker, a reference call, then curated introductions with planned dates and honest feedback after each one. Your membership and level of support are shaped around your goals and discussed with you directly on the call.
Do you accept everyone who applies?
No. We're selective by design. We only take on clients we believe we can genuinely match, and not every application moves forward. It's what keeps every match strong.
How does vetting work at The Broom List?
Every member and client goes through the same 360-degree evaluation: a two-hour interview, video verification, and a reference call with someone who knows them well. What we learn shapes every introduction. It is not a criminal background check, and no screening replaces your own judgment. We are always here to talk anything through, before or after a date.
